Backcountry Fishing the Keys

Backcountry Fishing

The backcountry is defined as the waters that make up Florida Bay. Florida Bay borders the backside of the Upper Keys. This shallow water fishery has much to offer everyone. We will seek out sea trout, tarpon, permit, snappers, red fish, snook, sharks, pompano, black drum and jack crevalles.

Islamorada Snook Fishing

We say if you haven’t caught the fish you want yet, just keep fishing, you will! This is a more bang for the buck type of fishing. At times the pace can be fast and furious in the backcountry. Trout will always be a willing participant in a light tackle duel and they are always joined in the fray by hard tugging jacks and ladyfish. For this type of fishing we use top quality spinning gear in the 6 to 10 lb. test class.

Backcountry/Night Tarpon Fishing

A great way to fish the Keys is to try a little of both in one trip. We leave the dock at 2:00 P.M. and rocket into the backcountry waters of the Everglades National Park. Here we will catch snook, reds, sea trout and huge sharks! Then we will zip back to the deep water channels that lay between the Keys and drift for big tarpon from 7:00 P.M. until 10:00 P.M. You get the best of both worlds this way all in one action-packed trip with Bamboo Charters. This is a very popular trip and we can even order a great dinner from one of the waterfront restaurants that are on the way to the tarpon action. We can even order a pizza for delivery along the way to the channels! You’ll need your energy for the Silver King!
